Lawton City Council Minutes

March 25, 2003

The Lawton City Council met in special session on Tuesday, March 25, 2003, at the Lawton City Clerk’s office for the purpose of selecting insurance coverage for the city for the upcoming year. Council members answering roll: Terry Masching, Tony Bengford, Mary Beth Schorg and Arlan Kolker. Jeff Nitzschke was absent. Mayor Martin Shorman called the meeting to order at 5:35 p.m.

Bill Goodwin of Luse-Etler-Goodwin, Inc. called the special meeting to inform Council of options between current insurance carrier, Employers Mutual Corporation, and prospective carrier, Iowa Communities Assurance Pool. Goodwin stated ICAP quote includes Work Comp based on last year’s employees. Although unable to confirm, he felt EMC quote was based on the same. With that in mind, the quote for coverage from EMC is $14,346.00 plus additional required membership with IAMU of $337.59. Quote received from ICAP is $11,941.00. Goodwin felt there were no additional membership requirements with ICAP.

Kolker moved to accept the quote from ICAP for the upcoming year, Masching seconded. On roll, 4-0, carried.

Goodwin will also get coverage information for water tower. This has not been included in the past, however due to area communities having claims, it was recommended the Council consider this option.
