Lawton City Council Minutes

January 21, 2003

The Lawton City Council met in special session on Tuesday, January 21, 2003, at the Lawton City Clerk’s office for the purpose of discussing disposition of city property.  Council members answering roll: Tony Bengford, Jeff Nitzschke, Mary Beth Schorg.  Kolker and Masching were absent.  Mayor Martin Shorman called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.  Lowell Anderson reported sewer backup on Birch St.  Also showed video of older sewer pipe inspection.  Mayor, Council and visitors proceeded to old bank building for inspection with Anderson.

Nitzschke reported current tenants in LCDC building wish to remain in business even if building is razed.  City will suggest alternate locations.  It will be tenants’ responsibility to follow up on suggestions.  After considerable discussion, Nitzschke moved to raze vacant bank, garage and LCDC buildings located on Lots 13 and 15 in Block 3 of the City of Lawton according to specs set up by the City.  Bengford seconded motion, roll 3-0, carried.

Anderson will hold pre-bid inspection on Thursday, January 30, 2003 for purpose of allowing potential demolition contractors the opportunity to inspect the buildings and get a more accurate estimate for bidding.  Contractor may salvage building materials as desired.  Demolition will be issued during February with completion by April 1, 2003 with weather being a possible extension factor.  City will be responsible for disconnection and capping of water and sewer mains.  City will also contact MidAmerica to disconnect gas and electricity to all buildings prior to demolition.  Site preparation by demolition crew will include fill dirt and leveling of Lots 13, 14, 15 and 16 of Block 3 according to the specs set up by the City.

With no further business, meeting was adjourned at 9:12 p.m.
